Level 3 Outdoor First Aid inc Forestry First Aid (+F)
This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way, particularly where professional medical help is not immediately available.
Included in this course is a 3 hour additional course in Forestry First Aid (+F) The qualification has been designed to provide the knowledge and competence for a learner to deal with emergency first aid situations in a forestry/agricultural environment.
There is sufficient content in this course to satisfy the requirements of the HSE in respect of Emergency First Aid at Work. An additional certificate can be provided to evidence this to an employer.
A range of outdoor First Aid related subjects are covered including:
First Aid Equipment Assessment of the situation Prioritising treatment Environmental factors Dealing with an unresponsive casualty Bandaging Moving a casualty Shock (including Anaphylaxis) Fractures and spinal injuries Heart attacks Choking Control of bleeding Head injuries Eye injuries Poisoning Chest injuries Abdominal injuries Sprains and strains Burns and scalds Asthma Diabetes Epilepsy Hypothermia Frostbite Heat exhaustion Bites and stings Minor injuries
Forestry First Aid (+F) Element
You will cover the following topics:
Know how to deal with a First Aid Emergency remote from medical assistance
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with catastrophic bleeding
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a crush injury
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty suffering from the effects of extreme cold
Know how to provide first aid for a casualty suffering from Lyme disease
Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day.
A three year Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.
A range of methods are used, including, practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).
Each student will receive a book detailing everything you will be taught.
We are able to deliver this course at our woodland site, delivering the course in an environment similar to where you may work.
Please note - This course will require some outdoor instruction. We will ask that you bring with you appropriate clothing. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, please bring with you items that you would normally use as part of your chosen activity. This will help when we discuss different activities that people do and how First Aid may differ at times.
A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 16 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A learner cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role.
Cost £130 Per Person
This includes a book, refreshments and the certificate which is valid for 3 years.
You will need to bring with you lunch but as we will be outdoors some of the time we would be happy for you to cook outdoors.
Please check with us first if you intend to do this as each venue varies.
Due to the nature of this course, we will always try to make this as exiting as we can as we love the outdoors. So we will try to book the course near a campsite or a location that has cabins or similar.
